Claire Laurence was a fictional character on The Young and the Restless, portrayed by Susanne Zenor.
Biography[]
Claire Laurence was the wife of Robert Laurence and the mother of Angela Laurence.
In 1966, 16 years before coming to Genoa City, Claire was placed in a mental facility. Then in May 1982, Robert decided to divorce Claire and move on with his life since no treatment would release whatever was blocking her mental function. Before getting the divorce, Robert went to see Claire and tell her that he was getting a divorce. Robert hoped that Claire would finally say something but she continued to stay in her catatonic state. While Robert was explaining to her that he would always be there for her Claire arose from her bed and lunged at him screaming. Next two orderlies rushed in and injected Claire with a sedative. After this Robert gets his divorce and begins a new relationship with Leslie Brooks.
Later in June, Claire’s doctor calls Robert and tells him that there has been a new change in Claire’s condition. The doctor tells Robert that for the first time in 16 years, Claire is beginning to speak again. Robert passes this information along to their daughter Angela who begins to have hope that Robert and Claire will reunite again. After months of treatment Claire is finally released from the mental facility but is unaware that she is now divorced. Robert begins to help Claire adjust to her new life but tells Stuart Brooks that Leslie is still his number one priority. Angela then makes a point to Robert that Claire stills needs her husband as she is afraid of slipping back into a catatonic state. Leslie realizes this too and tells Robert that they shouldn’t see each other anymore.
Then in December, Claire stumbles upon a note from one of Robert’s friends expressing his sorrow over Robert and Claire’s divorce. This shocking revelation devastates Claire and she begins to pack up her things to return to the mental facility. Robert and Angela find her packing and begin to comfort her. They tell her that she doesn’t have to be alone. Then Leslie stops by to finally convince Claire that Robert loves her. This finally ends things between Leslie and Robert. Not long after this a newly reunited Robert and Claire leave Genoa City with Angela.
